Salinity and Water LevelsMangrove Forests exist on only the coasts of countries in high salinity waters. The requirements, as far as depth of water, are what mainly limit the development of mangrove trees. They need in between 1.5 and 8 feet of water to exist, with small swings out of that because of tides being permitted. For a mangrove tree to let down its roots when the seed is released from the tree, the water has to be relatively calm so that it does not float away into the open ocean.
